The children sit in the black balcony
with the Reverend Sykes
It became clear through the testimonies
that Mayella and Bob Ewell were lying.
Mayella had actually led Tom on, her father Mr
Ewell had found out and beaten her.
Taking a break from the trial, Scout
and Dill talk with Mr Raymond outside
the courthouse.
Mr Raymond lives happily with a black woman,
yet he pretends that his is permanently drunk in
order to escape the pressure from townspeople
who would not believe he chooses to live that way.
Despite the overwhelming evidence that
Tom was innocent, the all-white jury
convicts him.
