Site = the land a settlement is built on
Dwelling = a building in which people live
Situation of a Settlement = the position of a settlement in relation to features such as rivers, hills and other settlements
City = a large settlement which has grown over time
Urbanisation = a process when rural settlements grow into towns and cities
Settlement Patterns = the shape of the settlement
Nucleated Settlement - a settlement in which buildings are grouped closely together
Linear Line Settlement - a settlement in which buildings have developed along a line
Dispersed Settlement - a settlement in which the buildings are spread widely apart
Sites
Wet point Site - has a good clean water supply (spring or well)
Bridging Site - at a point where you can cross a river easily
Defensive Site - easy to defend from attack
Gap Site - at a gap in a ridge of hills or mountains (and usually on a good route between them)
Dry point - safe from flooding
