Need some ice breakers? Ask "What if questions." What if my best friend was a spy? What if I was originally an orphan? What if people suddenly had open access to each other's thoughts? What if you had to follow every law in existence to keep risk from being wanted dead or alive? What if the universe suddenly gave everyone powers? What if there was a crossover between show/movie X and show/movie Y? Ask "I wonder..." To write a semi-cannon or semi-realistic story ask I wonder... Questions. I wonder what would happen if no one was orphaned? I wonder what would happen if everyone was kinder? I wonder what would happen if character X acted on their feelings for character Y? Use random plot generators and get results like: A man in his early twenties, who is very daring. A man in his late twenties, who is very foolish. The story begins in a doctors surgery. There's a case of mistaken identity. It's a story about hatred. Your character has to resort to underhand methods to achieve results. A man in his early forties, who can be quite rude. A man in his sixties, who can be quite foolish. The story begins on a train. A 30-year old murder case is resurrected. It's a story about infidelity.
