1. Heat energy from the Sun beams down onto the Earth, some of it passes through a blanket of gases in our atmosphere.2. Some of the heat energy escapes back into space3. Greenhouse gases form a blanket around the earth that traps the heat energy in the atmosphere.4. The energy that does not escape into space is reflected back to Earth.5. Main greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.
