Lesson 1
Scope of practice- The range of responsibilities and practice guidelines that determine the boundaries within which a healthcare worker practices. Duties outside the Scope of practice: CANNOT Perform medical triage over the phone or in person. Prescribe or make recommendations about drugs (including over the counter drugs.) Give out drug samples without provider permission. Automatically submit refill requests. Administer medications or IVs. Analyze or interpret test results. Operate laser equipment. Standard of Care- Whether the level and quality o patient care is the same as what another health care worker with appropriate training and experience would provide. Duties performed outside the scope of practice and standard of care could result in being charged with Professional Negligence.
