author - Erich Maria Remarque published in 1929 war took place from 1914 to 1918 Western front- 600-mile line that stretched from Switzerland to the North Sea deep trenches were dug for the war more than 1.5 million man were killed and wounded in the first 4 months the German army collapsed in 1918 and surrendered to the French and Americans Remarque actually fought in the war- he served alongside Hitler In the first 18 months I print, the novel sold 2.5 million prints and translated into 22 languages All Quiet on the Western Front was one of the first books burned by the nazis
