Learning outcomes After studying this topic, you should be able to: Describe the threat of dehydration posed by the atmosphere. List the main strategies by which terrestrial plants conserve water. Compare and contrast water conservation strategies used by animals with those employed by plants. Describe the availability of water within a system and explain its flux through the system in terms of water potential. Illustrate the concept of homeostasis by using water potential and the control of water flux as an example. Describe how a hormone operates within an organism. Use alternative photosynthetic pathways to illustrate efficiency of resource use. Evaluate means of energy capture and storage with respect to energy requirements.
