PERSPECTIVE & PERCEPTIONDefinition of Perspective-Merriam-Webster---The way in which a subject or its parts are mentally viewed---A point of view---Capacity to view things as they actually are---To gain a broader understanding on somethingUsing the story of the four blind men standing around the elephant each thinking they are holding something different and separate. We need to shift our position, perspective or thinkng sometimes in order to get the whole picture. Why Have Perspective?- Experience is what you make it- Every situation has positive and negative aspects---look for the positive, see the positive---look for the negative, see the negativeHaving a wide perspective allows us to sit above a situation and see the whole picture while still being able to relate to clients from many different places and with many different experiences and views.PERSPECTIVE- It is easy to have perspective when things are going well and theres no need to problem solve or work through difficult issues- Perspective can be much more difficult during suffering or difficult times where purpose is hard to see.---Failure---Illness---Broken RelationshipsFinding Perspective in Suffering- Messages/callings are often connected with suffering- Question: What can be the most significant experiences of suffering?- Suffering can often provide the opportunity to:-confront in love-help others in similar circumstances-develop compassion for others-give a platform to speak to others on that issueInternal Resources-We all have a reserve of internal resources-Provide energy and ability to move forward and change situation in life-the more whole the wealth of resources, the better we will be at reaching our goalsQuestion: What would be a biblical example of this principle?INTERNAL RESOURCES- Important to know what skills/gifts/etc. need to be present to meet current goals- Positive self talk is one of the most important internal resources we have.
