Simple Machines Make things Seem easier to do.

Remember that when you work on an action the formula looks like this:W=Fd

So you can have a trade off between force and distance to do the same workFd=dF

Simple machines use this trade off and by minimizing the effort (force) we have to put into work we are doing.....But this is a trade off, if you are going to use less force, you are going to have to do it over a greater distance

There are four types of simple machines we are studying:

Pulleys

Inclined Planes

Wheel and Axle

Levers

The basic Ideas levers is that the distance between the fulcrum can altered to minimize the amount of force needed to move a heavier object.

Some examples of Levers: crowbar wheel barrow sea-saw  scissors/pliers baseball bat

You increase the distance you go in order to minimize the force you face

This only works if there is no frictionIf there is friction:Work up incline > Work straight up

Basic Idea

Levers

Inclined Planes
