The Electromagnetic Spectrum

The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of all possible frequencies of electromagnetic waves and radiation

The spectrum ranges from Radio waves with relatively small frequencies of ≈ \(10^4\) Hz, to Gamma rays with frequencies of ≈ 10^20

Remember that the frequency and wavelength of waves are inversely proportional, so waves with large frequencies have small wavelengths and visa versa

The main types of radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum in order of smallest frequency are:

Radio waves Microwaves Infrared radiation Visible radiation (Light) Ultraviolet radiation X-rays Gamma rays
