A Note about assessment

Summative assessment is "assessment OF learning" such as a test, assignment or exam that is graded and counts towards a student's award.Formative assessment is "assessment FOR learning" and provides both the tutor and student with feedback on their progress and understanding. Ideally the feedback will enable the student to identify their strengths and weaknesses and provide advice about how they can improve.Peer assessment requires students to provide each other with feedback and perhaps even to grade each others work. It is a powerful technique that can develop students' ability to critically evaluate the quality of their own work.
