Steps: Simplify if you can - ie, knock off any zeros Attempt in head, however, if you lose track, draw a bus shelter Ask yourself - how many  times does first number go into second (ie, how many times does 16 go into 73' If not exact, carry over remainder If at end of sum, add decimal point at top and bottom, and zeros if necessary continue carrying until - a) sum works out exactly b) you get a recurring numer, c) you get to the number of decimal places specified in the question
