Experienced Based Design

Action Recommendation:Identify and describe key concepts of Experience Based Design/Co-design (EBD/EBCD) and experience mapping:A philosophy and a set of methods focused on understanding the experiences and emotions of those who are involved in receiving and delivering healthcare services; striving to understand what people naturally feel and do. Co-design involves patients, family and team members that are interviewed about specific touch points of their journey. Experience mapping is a strategic process of capturing and communicating interactions. The map builds knowledge and helps to create positive experiences. Key Concepts and approaches; #1. Capture the experience- help people tell their story through interviews, observations and experience questionnaires. #2. Understand the Experience- summarize the data, identify key experience themes. Share through experience mapping, identifying priorities. #3. Improve the experience- Co-design turn experience into action, make improvements based on patient and family identified needs. #4. Measure the Experience- evaluate and sustain the improvements EBD helps us challenge our assumptions of how things should be designed.Reference: The Beryl Institute, Body of Knowledge-Experience Design
