Are there terms that are essential in teaching and learning within the arts?

Art as Communication and Education 1. Is art a language? Do we all understand that language? Yes, because it is a way of communication but everyone interprets it differently. 2. What are the similarities between music and language? Both conveys an emotion or expresses something many people can respond and relate to. They also convey a message from one person to another. 3. Can music and language express the same things? Yes, for example they can try to express the same feeling. 4. Listen to the Poem by Wilfred Owen. What knowledge do we gain from this poem that would be lacking in a factual account of the First World War? The emotions and experiences of the people who actually where there, how they suffered and saw people they knew suffer and die. 5. How can fictional literature give us valued knowledge? It can give us an insight in different cultures and situation in the world that we are not familiar with. 6. Why do people watch films that scare them or make them cry? Because sometimes you want to experience those strong feelings that you maybe not experience in your everyday life. When watching scary movies you can get an adrenalin kick. 7. Do you think violent films have an effect on people? Yes, because you doesn’t experience it in everyday life so therefore you get an insight of how it can be and it conveys strong feelings. It can also affect people in a negative way if they see the violence as a good thing they think they can do as well. 8. Is there ever a case for censorship? Yes, if the film is aimed for a young audience who cannot handle to scary films and too much violence. Maybe sometimes the intention is a good movie and not to express the reality, and then it might be a case of censorship.
