Statutory Instruments -          most common delegated legislation -          3117 STs made in 2011 -          Authority given to ministers and government departments = make detailed regulations for there area of responsibility -          e.g. Ministers of Transport has the power under various Road Traffic Acts to make detailed road traffic regulations -          regulations are good = updating primary legislation and adapting law to changing circumstances -          e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 has been update through the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 -          SI used to implement EU directives in English Law -          e.g. Unfair Terms in Consumer Contacts Regulations 1994 -          Used to bring an Act of Parliament into effect by means of a Commencement Order -          e.g. Equality Act 2010 was brought into effect in stages by five Commencement Orders
