Punctuation Punctuation
. Full stop, used to mark the end of a sentence. (I died.)
! Exclamation mark, Used at the end of a sentence to mark emphasis or a sudden outcry. (Suddenly, I died!)
? Question mark, Used at the end of a question instead of a full stop. (Did I really die?)
" " Speech marks, Used to mark the beginning and the end of a passage of speech. (Brodie exclaimed,"I died!")
( ) or - - Parenthesis, used to add extra meaning to a sentence. (Brodie (whom recently drank bleach) died.)
- Hyphen, used in compound words or to indicate a break in thought. (Brodie Jean-Luke Rolph died.)
; Semicolon, used to connect two main clauses that are related. (Brodie was dead; he only died to prove god didn't exist.)
: Colon, used to start a list or sometimes to indicate one clause causes the other. (Brodie died from a multitude of things: he drank bleach, he slit his wrists and he jumped from a cliff!)
' Apostrophe, used to indicate the omission of a word or letter or to indicate belonging. (Brodie's dead body wouldn't be found)
... Ellipsis, used to jump from one phrase to another that is related, can be used at the end of paragraphs to indicate an explanation later. (So…what happened?)
