Questão Responda
What is an element? A pure element consist of only one type of atom
What is a compound? contains two or more types of atom chemically bonded together
What is a mixture? contains two or more types of elements or compounds which are not chemically bonded They are physical reactions which can be reversed back into their pure elements and compounds.
What is a solution? consist of solvent with one or more solutes dissolved in it.
What is a solute? substances that can dissolve in another substance.
What is a solvent? substances which dissolve other substances.
what is meant by the terms soluble and insoluble? insoluble- cannot be dissolves soluble-can be dissolved
What is the term for the following expression mass of pure salt divided by mass of rock salt purity
What is chromatography and how and why does it work? separates mixtures into their components more soluble substances travel up faster chromatography paper than those which are less soluble separates dissolved substances
What is filtration how and why does it work? separates insoluble solid from liquid insoluble solid stays behind and becomes residue as its molecules are to big to pass through filter paper holes liquid passes through filter paper and becomes a filtrate
What is distillation and how and why does it work? separates solvent from solution solvent has a lower boiling point than solution as it is pure when solution is heated its liquid evaporates the volume of solution decreases as the liwuid evaporates. The liquid is then cooled and condensed into a separate container.
What is meant by evaporation and how and why does it work? separates soluble solid from liquid liquid evaporates leaving behind the solid The liquid has a lower boiling point so it evapaporates first
What is concentration? number of molecules in a given volume of a substance
What is melting point? the temperature at which a substance melts and turns into a liquid
What is boiling point? temperature at which something boils and becomes a gas
What is sublimation? a change of state from solid directly into a gas
