Questão Responda
Describe the greenhouse effect Some of the electromagnetic radiation from the Sun reaches the Earth and is absorbed. The Earth then re-emits it as infrared radiation. Various gases in the troposphere absorb some of this IR and re-emit it in all directions - including back towards the Earth, keeping us warm.
What are the 3 main greenhouse gases? Water vapour Carbon dioxide Methane
What are the factors that determine how much a gas contributes to the greenhouse effect? How much IR radiation one molecule of gas absorbs How much of that gas there is How long the gas stays in the atmosphere
In 1997, the Kyoto protocol was signed. What was this protocol? Industrialised countries promised to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to agreed levels
TRUE OR FALSE: The Kyoto protocol came to an end in 2012 and currently has no replacement TRUE However, many governments agree that they need to reduce CO₂ emissions by around 50% by 2050
in the UK, what has the government done to try to prevent global warming? Created policies to use more renewable energy sources (e.g. wind) Encouraged the use of more energy-efficient alternatives to everyday objects (e.g. energy-saving bulbs and electric cars)
