Questão Responda
The Blast Furnace Haemotite- Iron (III) Oxide- Fe(2)O(3) Coke-Carbon-C Sand- Silicon Dioxide- SiO(2) Slag-Calcium Silicate- CaSiO(3) Limestone- Calcium Carbonate- CaCO(3)
Step 1: Reducing Agent *Coke burns at 1500-2000c *Carbon + Oxygen -> Carbon Dioxide C + O(2) -> CO(2) * Carbon Dioxide + Carbon -> Carbon Monoxide CO(2) +C ->2CO
Step 1: Cont. Overall: Carbon + Oxygen -> Carbon Monoxide 2C + O(2) -> 2CO
Step 2 : Reduction of Iron Oxide Iron(III) Oxide + Carbon Monoxide -> Iron + Carbon Dioxide Fe(2)O(3)[s] + 3CO[g]-> 2Fe[l] + 3CO(2)[g] @2000c, Iron is molten, sinks to the bottom, and is tapped off.
Stage 3: Removal of Impurity Main impurity- Sand Calcium Carbonate + Carbon Dioxide -> Calcium Oxide CaCO(3)[s] + CO(2)[g] -> CaO[s]
Slag Calcium Oxide +Silicon Dioxide -> Calcium Silicate CaO[s] + SiO(2)[s] -> CaSiO(3) [l]
Slag Uses Floats on top of Iron. Is ran off using a different tap. Uses Roads Landfills Foundations for Buildings
Hot Waste Gases Nitrogen, Carbon Monoxide & Dioxide Used to heat air into the bottom of the furnace. This reduces energy costs
Crude Iron Main Impurity- Carbon Turned into steel by lowering Carbon content ( too brittle) Adding other metals (Alloy Formation)
