Holism | Idea that the mind and body are a single integrated system. "Whole" person; Total picture |
Humanism | Clients treated like a person, not an object. People capable of change. Treated equally, respectfully, and fairly. |
Organismic | Person's behaviors influence the physical/social environment and, in turn, a person is impacted by changes in environment. |
Why COTA needs to know the philosophy... | 1. Represents the profession's views on the nature of its' existence 2. Guides a professional's actions 3. Direct relationship between growth of profession & its ability to justify the need for it 4. COTA must appreciate philosophy in order to understand why certain techniques work. |
