Third Period | 1952 - 1971 "Serialism". This occured with the death of his rival, Schoenberg but more an outgrowth of Webern's style. Piece became much shorter with more strict imitative counterpoint. Memoriam Dylan Thomas, The Flood (for television), Requiem Cantacles. |
Stravinsky/Schoenberg Rivalry | When Stravinsky turned to Noe-Classicism Schoenberg launched an all out attack on Stravinsky's music. The musical world was split into two factions - Tonal vs atonal or Stravinsky vs. Schoenberg. |
