Questão Responda
What is the periodic table? The periodic table is a table of all known elements in order of atomic number
What is a period in the periodic table? A horizontal row of elements in the periodic table
What is a group in the periodic table? Vertical column of elements in the periodic table
What is an atomic number? Number of an element in the periodic table
What are physical properties? Physical properties are those that can be observed without changing the identity of the substance; a property that is measurable. Examples are: Colour, Density, Hardness, Smell, Freezing point, Boiling point, Melting point
What are chemical properties? Chemical properties are those that become evident during or after a chemical reaction. Examples are: Toxicity, Reactivity, PH, Flammability
What are alkali metals? The group 1 family of elements, which all react quickly with water
What are halogens and where are they found in the periodic table? Halogens are non-metal elements to the right of the periodic table, they are in group 7
What is a noble gas? An unreactive gas in group 0 (or 8) of the periodic table.
What is melting point? Temperature at which a solid changes state to a liquid.
What is density? Mass of a material per unit volume.
What does toxic mean? Poisonous
What is an atom? The smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist. Makes up everything (except energy)
What is an element? A substance made up of only one type of atom
What is a compound? Atoms of elements combine to from compounds; these compounds have different properties to the elements they contain
What is a chemical formula? Chemical symbols and numbers that show which elements, and how many atoms of each a compound is made up of
What is a ratio? Link between two values - for example if the first value is twice the second value, the ratio is 2:1
What is a product? A product is a substance made in a chemical reaction
What is a reactant? A starting substance in a chemical reaction
What is a polymer? A large molecule made up of a very long chain of smaller molecules
What is a monomer? A small molecule that becomes chemically bonded to other monomers to form polymers
What is starch? A large molecule made by plants as a form of food storage
What is a polythene? Polyethylene, the most common plastic, which is used for carrier bags
What is cellulose? Larger sugar molecule made by plants for cell walls
What are ceramics? An inorganic, non-metallic solid prepared by heating and then cooling substances such as clay
What are composites? A material made from two or more different materials, each of these often having very different properties
