Why did Mary Queen of Scots pose a double threat to Elizabeth I? She was a Catholic and was married to the heir to the French throne in 1558, when England was at war with France.
When did Mary return to Scotland? In 1561 when her husband died.
What did Elizabeth decide to do when Mary fled to England for support from her cousin? Mary was to remain in England as a royal prisoner in 'honourable captivity'. This meant she was kept in custody but treated with the respect due to a Queen.
Who did Elizabeth want Mary to marry? Someone who wouldn't support her claim to the throne.
