Questão Responda
What types of stem cells are there? Adult and embryonic cells.
Can adult or embryonic stem cells differentiate into many cells? embryonic stem cells differentiate into many cells
Can adult or embryonic stem cells differentiate into few cells? adult stem cells differentiate into few cells
What 3 stem cells can be found in bone marrow? Blood Skin Bone
What is multipotency? Adult/ Multipotent cells can develop into more than one cell type, but are more limited than pluripotent cells adult
What are pluripotent cells? Adult/Embryonic? Pluripotent cells can give rise to all of the cell types that make up the body Emby
Where exactly do embryonic stem cells come from? inner cell mass of a blastocsyt in an embryo
What are the advantages of using adult stem cells? The wont be rejected no ethical issues
What are the advantages of using embryonic stem cells? * can differentiate into many different types of cells * fairly easy to create .
What is the function of stem cells in bone marrow? To become party specialised cells that can differentiate into some specialised cells eg blood stem cells
Explain why blood stem cells only produce blood stem cells. They are partly specialised adult stem cells so they cant differentiate into everything cos they limited man
What is the function of stem cells in animals? * develop into many different cell types in the body during early life and growth * serve as a sort of internal repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells
What types of stem cells are found in plants? Meristem cells are plant stem cells that can differentiate into any type of cell during any time in the life of a plant. Found in zines where plant growth takes place eg shoots and roots
What is the function of plant stem cells? give rise to various organs of a plant and are responsible for growth.
Compare embryonic and adult stem cells in animals. * adult- less cells, e= more cells * easier to get e stem cells * e stem cells can be rejected
Give 2 examples of where stem cells may be used in medicine. If a person is paralyzed, neurones from stem cells can be implanted into their body to replace the damaged neurones to allow the person to not be paralyzed anymore. by directing the embryonic stem cells to turn into insulin-producing cells, they may be able to transplant the cells into people with type 1 diabetes
What are the benefits of using stem cells? Can help people by replacing their damaged cells .
What are the risks of using stem cells? new cancers organ damage stem cell failure graft vs host disease
What is a stem cell? an undifferentiated cell that can go on to become a number of different types of cells eg neurones and red blood cells
