Iron deficiency Anaemia | Most common type of anaemia. Caused by an iron shortage in the body. - results in low haemoglobin levels. (iron need to create haemoglobin). |
Vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia | B12 needed for making RBC's. Lack of B12 results in lower production of RBC. Caused by diet or body cannot absorb it normally. Cure - injection or tablets of B12. |
Folate deficiency anaemia | Folate needed for cell production. Lower RBC as a result. May caused by certain medication or diet, mainly green vegetablea or overcooking them. Pregnancy often linked to this due to higher folate cell numbers being needed. Folate supplement can cure this. |
Anaemia of chronic diseases. | Caused by chronic conditions. The inflammation that occurs can interfere with iron absorption. |
Anaemia of chronic kidney disease | Can be put under ACD anaemia. Kidneys produce less Erythropoietin which stimulates RBC production. |
Haemolytic anaemia | RBC's are prematurely destroyed and removed from blood due to the body producing an antibody which kills them. May be an inherited condition. |
Aplastic anaemia | Rare condition affecting the bone marrow. can be life threatning- certain drugs, radiation exposure and medical conditions may cause it. Exact. cause unknown in most cases. |
Sickle cell anaemia | An inherited condition that results in your body producing faulty haemoglobin and RBC's appear in sickle shapes. May cause small blockages in blood flow and causing severe pain. (Sickle cell crisis) |
