Case study of when effects of Privation AND institutional care CAN be reversed HINT: Gardner- Deprivational Dwarfism	A girl was born with a malfunction so she was fed through a tube. Out of fear, her mother never held her. At 8 months she went to hospital for treatment where the nurses cuddled her. She returned to normal despite no change in her diet.
Case study where effects of privation CAN be reversed HINT: Bowlby et al/ Rutter et al- Czech twins	The twins were not looked after and at 7 could not talk. However when they turned 14 they could and by 20 had an above average IQ. However it is argued that they formed attachment with each other.
Evidence that the effects of privation AND institutional care CANNOT be reversed HINT: Hodges and Tizard- Longitudinal study	65 Children were placed in an institution when 4 months old. 70% were not able to 'care deeply' about anyone. At 16, 'restored' children did not bond with parents, adopted children did, and ex-institutionalised children had problems with peers.
Evidence that the effects of privation AND institutional care CANNOT be reversed HINT: Rutter et al- Romanian Orphans	Studied 100 orphans when aged 4, 6, and 11. Those adopted by families before they were 6 months old had normal attachments. Those adopted after 6 months showed disinhibited attachment and had problems with peers.
