Less Sulphur Cockatoo Psittacine *live 40 years *most popular in parrot group *need training *aggressive when hit maturity *destructive - need lots of input from owner *pairs must be compatible to breed
Java Sparrow Finch *very sociable (with other finches but smaller like zebra may be intimidated *aviary best *fairly long lived
Zebra Finch Finch *most popular finch *easy to keep - good for children and beginners *like groups 3-4 minimum *use really small mesh aviary or cage *no free flight as hard to catch
Bangalese Finch Finch *only finches not found in wild (crossbreed) *get on with other small species *quite hardy - can be kept outside
Gouldian Finch Finch *really shy *quite demanding *if kept out doors there should be 12 hours light and heating to enable natural behaviour *extra lighting in winter to promote eating
Canary Finch *popular *do well in mixed aviaries (eg with bangalese finch) fairly hardy but needs extra heat and light in winter
Toucan Softbill *messiest bird *need substantial and large aviary *extra heat and light in winter *it will eat small birds
Sunbird Softbill *outdoor aviary but in winter needs indoor (need 2nd accommodation) *very messy *nectar hard to source *nectar pots go off in warm weather *can be expensive
Chinese Painted Ornamental Quail Gamebird *expensive at first *good for kids - easy to handle *must have grit diet *similar to poultry - kept outside - extra cost to proof from predators
