Crime Genre There is one off crimes that tend to create the most anxiety by the audience E.g Serial killer and murderers And there is also crimes that are classed as not as serious and dangerous like robberies, however there may be several of these crimes if in a film scenario
Why Audiences watch the crime genre: Innocent and guilt mystery Question of morality Revolution to a mystery Relates to normal problems Sub genres: Spy Thrillers Criminal Centre stage Cold Case narratives Specialist criminologists Courtroom narratives
Stereotypes: The crime genre tends to be a male dominated genre. Usually has a high proportion of the audience to be male. Corruption within the storyline. Settings: Town, city locations showing police stations and court rooms. Showcasing all things associated with the police (law).
Sound Non-diagetic voice overs analysing what's happening on screen. To create a tense atmosphere for the audience. Background music edited and fit to the movie to add depth to the sound. Diagetic sounds such as footsteps and the door closing, the wind, an short dialogue can be used and are used to add tension in crime movies.
Props Bags and money are used to connote a robbery. Weapons like hammers, screwdrivers, knifes and guns are used. Masks and black clothing as well. Characters: The protagonist is usually a criminal of some sort, as the audience experience his crimes. The antagonist is usually a police officer or detective.
