Questão Responda
What bonding and structure does NaCl have? Ionic bonding and a giant ionic lattice structure.
Define ionic bond The electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions
What is a giant ionic lattice? A three-dimensional structure of oppositely charged ions, held together by strong ionic bonds
What are the physical properties of a giant ionic lattice? High melting point Dissolve well in polar solvents Doesn't conduct electricity in solid state Conducts electricity in molten state in solution
Why doesn't a NaCl conduct electricity in solid when it does in molten and solution? No free moving ions or electrons in solid. In molten and solution, ions are free to move.
What shape is the P orbital? Dumb-bell shaped
How many electrons are in a P sub-shell? 6
How many orbitals are in a P subshell? 3
What groups are in the P-block in the periodic table? Groups 3-8
Why does water have a higher boiling point than other group 6 hydrides? Water molecules form hydrogen bonds to one another, which take a lot of energy to break before it can evaporate, giving it a relatively high boiling point.
Why does ice float? In the liquid state, hydrogen bonds are constantly forming and breaking as the molecules move around. In the solid state, the O-H bonds and hydrogen bonds are arranged tetrahedrally around he O atom, forming an open lattice structure. This lowers the density, making ice float.
