Advantages of Stereotypes | - helpful to make a snap judgement - help us remember information about others - people can respond appropriately - fit in with our own groups, and feel a sense of belonging |
Disadvantages of Stereotypes | - once learnt by children, are difficult to overcome - most stereotypes promote harmful images - stop us from seeing people for who they really are - lead people to view non-members of the group in a negative way |

Definition of Discrimination | Treating someone due to the prejudice. |
Practical Implication | - most stereotypes promote harmful beliefs, people make mistakes about someone when meeting them for the first time, stop them from seeing what they're really like - stereotypes especially hard to overcome by children, learnt by observing and imitating role models in the media, however media is slowly changing |
