Forces Pull or Push
SI Unit of Forces Newton (N)
Newton's First Law An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless it is acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Effects of Forces - Make an object move from rest - Stop a moving object - Change the direction / speed of a moving object
Types of Forces Contact Forces - Air Resistance - Frictional force Non-contact Forces - Gravitational force - Magnetic force
Newton's Second Law It states that the acceleration produced by a force on an object is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force applied and is proportional to the mass of the object.
Formula of Newton's Second Law F = ma
Newton's Third Law It states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Friction It is a force exerted by a surface or a fluid when an object moves across it or makes an effort to move across it.
When is Friction useful? - Allows to walk or run - Allows us to pick up objects
When is friction a nuisance? - Causes objects to wear and tear - Generates heat as waste energy in machinery
