What does pulse mean? The pulse is the beat in a piece of music
What does simple time mean? Simple time means any time signature that divides the beat into two or multiples of two
What does compound time mean? Compound time means any time signature that is divisible by three
What does regular rhythm mean? The pattern of regular pulses caused in music by the occurrence of strong and weak melodic and harmonic beats
What does irregular rhythm mean? The pattern of irregular pulses caused in music by the occurrence of strong and weak melodic and harmonic beats
What does free rhythm mean? Free rhythm means you have more freedom with the timings
What does augmentation mean? Augmentation is the modification of a theme by increasing the time value of all its notes.
What does hemiola mean? Hermiola is a rhythmic pattern of syncopated beats with two beats in the time of three or three beats in the time of two.
What doe cross rhythm mean? Cross rhythm is the effect produced when two conflicting rhythms are heard together
What does triplets mean? A group of three notes having the same time value as two notes of the same kind
What does diminution mean? the repetition or imitation of a subject or theme in notes of shorter duration than those first used
What does syncopation mean? a shifting of the normal accent, usually by stressing the normally unaccented beats
What does tempo mean? relative rapidity or rate of movement, usually indicated by such terms as adagio, allegro, etc., or by reference to the metronome
What does rubato mean? having certain notes arbitrarily lengthened while others are correspondingly shortened, or vice versa
What does polyrhythm mean? the simultaneous occurrence of sharply contrasting rhythms within a composition
What does bi-rhythm mean? A bi-rhythm is a specific type of polyrhythm, consisting of two independent rhythms played simultaneously
What does drum fills mean? short break in the groove--a lick that 'fills in the gaps
