Questão Responda
Name an example of a fruit, seed or nut that is pressed to extract oil from it. Olives
Name an example of a fruit, seed or nut that is distilled to extract the oil from it. Lavender
How is distillation carried out? The plant/fruit/seed, is put into boiling water and the oil from the plant/fruit/seed evaporates. it is then collected by the steam being condensed.
What is removed from the condensed vapour in distillation? Water and other impurities.
What oil is important as a fuel? Vegetable Oil.
Why is the boiling point of vegetable oil higher than waters boiling point? Because the molecules in vegetable oil are much larger than those in water, which makes the forces between the molecules much larger meaning that a higher amount of energy is needed to overcome the force between the molecules.
What happens to food when oil is used? The outside turns another colour and it becomes crispier. Or The food absorbs some of the oil and the food then has a higher energy content.
