What time of day is it in the poem? Late afternoon (sunset)
What is the boy doing in the poem? Cutting wood with a 'buzz saw'
Who comes out to call the boy? His sister
What happens to the boy? His hand is cut off by the saw when he is distracted by his sister's call to supper
What does the doctor do when he arrives? Anesthetizes the boy by giving him ether
What happens to the boy? He dies
What does the rest of the family do following the boy's death? Carry on with the work they have to do on the farm.
