Booting The Computer Booting is a start-up sequence that starts the operating system of a computer when it is turned on. Every computer has a boot sequence.
Performing basic computer tasks -Controls the peripherals such as scanners and printers. -Deals with the transfer of programs in and out of memory. -Organises use of memory and processing time on the computer. -Provides the interface between the user and the computer. -Deals with errors and user instructions.
Provides a user interface Provides the interface between the user and the computer - for example, Windows Vista and Apple OSX
Provides file management File management deals with the loading, saving and deleting of files sorted on backing storage devices.
Handles system resources Handles system resources such as the computer's memory and sharing of the central processing unit (CPU) time. The operating system makes sure that each application gets the resources it needs in order to maximise the functionality of the overall system.
