naturalization	act of becoming a citizen
dual citizenship	Citizenship in two different countries
immigrants	A person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country
refugees	A person who as been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or a natural disaster
"melting pot" theory	A country locality, or situation in which cultural assmilitamtions result in blending their heritage and traditions of previously distinct ethnic groups
"salad bowl" theory	People of different cultures living in harmony
14th amendment	Equal protection of the law. no state shall deny to any person
government	The governing of a nation, state, or community
autocracy	A system of government where one person has absolute control
oligarchy	rule by a few people. oli=few
democracy	A system of government in which power is vested in the people, who rule either directly or through freely elected representatives.
Direct democracy	The power lies directly in the hands of the people
Representative democracy (A.K.A Indirect democracy)	A form of government where the powers of the sovereignty are delegated to a body of man, elected from time to time, who exercise them for the benefit of the whole nation
