Peterson and Peterson (1959) A - to measure the duration of stm P - used 24 students, experimenter said constant syllable eg. 'BCB' then a 3 digit number F- ppts remembered 90% with 3 sec interval ppts remembered 2% with 18 sec interval C- suggersts stm lasts 20 sec
evaluation Marsh (1997) - ppts knew they would be tested therefor stm is much shorter Nairne (1999) - items can be recalled after 96 seconds when testing using the same item.
