Questão Responda
What does the stomach do? Food is stored in stomach for 1-6 hours. The muscular wall of stomach contract and relax, churning up the food. This further digests the food mixing it with gastric juice.
What does gastric juice contains? 1. Hydrochloric acid 2. Mucus 3. Digestive juices
Hydrochloric acid? A strong acid that kills many of the bacteria that may have entered the body with food.
Mucus? Creates a layer the lining of these stomach and prevents the stomach digesting itself.
Digestive juice? Contains chemicals that start the digestion of protein.
Duodenum? The first part of your small intestine
What are the two tubes which enters the duodenum? Pancreas and liver
Pancreas? It's an organ that produces pancreatic juices. Pancreatic juices contain chemicals that help digest the carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
Liver? Performs more than 500 different chemical process. The process in liver that is important in digestion is the production of bile.
Bile? A greenish liquid responsible for chemical digestions for fats. Bile causes large pieces of fat in food to be broken down into tiny pieces.
Nutrients that pass from the small intestines are: 1. Fatty acid and glycerol produced from digestion of fats. 2. Amino acids from digestion of proteins. 3. Glucose from the digestion of carbs
What is the final section of our digestive tract? Large intestine
What does the large intestine do? Water is reabsorbed into the body from what is of the food, along with any remaining nutrients..........
Example of digestive disorders: 1. Vomiting 2. Diarrhea 3. Heartburn 4. Appendicitis
Vomiting Stress or infections such as gastroenteritis can cause the muscular wall of the stomach and small intestine to contract. Vomit is partly digested food mixed with stomach acid and bile.
Diarrhea Cause the lining of the small intestine o become inflamed so that it can no longer absorb water from the faeces. People with this digestive disorder should drink plenty of water.
Heartburn Unlike the stomach, oesophagus does not have mucus protecting the lining from stomach acids. The burning sensation of heartburn is the acid attacking the lining of the oesophagus.
Appendicitis If the opening of the appendix is blocked, then the appendix fills with mucus. It became inflamed and swollen, causing the pain of appendicitis.
Cow's teeth and intestine Cow's teeth are designed to grind up grass and other plants. A cow's intestine are much larger than the dog's.
Dog's teeth and intestine The front teeth are designed as to hold meat and tear it to small pieces. The back teeth are to cutting rather than chewing.
Human compare to animal 1. Have shorter digestion than the cow's but longer than the dog's. 2. Teeth are designed for both chewing and cutting. 3. Omnivore
