Questão Responda
Atomic Orbitals An orbital is a region that can hold up two electrons with opposite spins. You can get different types of orbitals.
Shell 1 contains 2 electrons
Shell 2 contains 8 electrons
Shell 3 contains 18 electrons
Shell 4 contains 32 electrons
S-Orbitals - Electron cloud in the shape of a sphere - Contains 2 electrons - The greater the number, the greater the radius of the s-orbital - Each shell from the 1st shell hold an s-orbital
P-orbitals - Electron cloud in the shape of a dumb-bell - Three p-orbitals at right angles to each other that can hold one or two electrons each - The greater the shell number, the further the P-orbital from the nucleus
D-Orbitals and F-Orbitals - Each shell from the third shell contains 5 D-orbitals - Each shell from the fourth contains 7 D-orbitals
S-Block Highest energy electrons in the s-sub-shell (left block of two groups)
P-Block Highest energy electrons in P-sub-shell (right block of 6 groups)
D-Block Highest energy electrons in the D-sub-shell (Centre block of 10 groups)
