Questão Responda
Define the term 'Covalent Bond' the strong electrostatic attraction between a shared pair of electrons and the nuclei of the bonded atoms
Where does covalent bonding occur? Covalent bonding occurs between compounds of non-metallic elements such as H2O or CO2
Single Covalent Bonding Single covalent bonding is where there is a single bond between the atoms as only one pair of electrons is shared
Multiple Covalent Bonding Multiple covalent bond means there is more than one electron pair shared between the atoms. So a double bond has 2 shared electron pairs, and a triple bond has 3 electron pairs. E.g/ O2 has a double bond and N2 has a triple bond
How many bonds does N form? 3
How many bonds does H form? 1
How many bonds does C form? 4
How many bonds does O form? 2
Dative Covalent Bond / Coordinate Covalent Bond A shared pair of electrons which has been provided by one of the bonding atoms only.
