What is the name given to diluted wood pulp and what is its composition? Slurry: 99% water, 1% fibre
What is a slice? An adjustable slit at the beginning of the 'Wet End.'
Wet End process (using key terms)? Wood pulp is turned into slurry. Slurry is pumped through slice onto moving gauze. Water is drained to allow fibres to interweave.
Press Section process? Nip presses or rollers wring out excess water. Pulp is stretched into rough paper and thickness is decided.
How is the thickness decided in the press section? The gap between rollers is adjusted to differ the thickness.
Drying Section process? Paper is dried using steam-heated rollers. Agents, starches, and resins are added.
Why are agents, starches, and resins added during the drying section? To enhance paper properties
Calendar Stack process? Rollers give thickness & smooth out paper. Pressure is applied to determine finish.
What happens to the paper after its been through the Fourdriner Process? It's wound onto a roll and stored or can be placed onto a precision cutting machine to produce the desired size.
