Being an active citizen Having the knowledge skills and understanding to participate in society and the ability to bring about change
Campaigning An organised series of events and activities that seek to influence the views of others
Community Action Citizens coming together in regards to an issue, or trying to bring about a change
Democracy A society where citizens have an open and fair election system, and are able to vote in regular elections
Direct Action Campaigning that can include non-violent and violent activities which targets people, groups or property
Indirect Action Campaigning that can include support for a group, signing petitions or lobbying for a group
Freedom (Association, Speech, Vote) The ability to act in a certain way without inference i.e. Freedom of Accosiation - to be able to meet freely with others without fear of procecution
Participation Taking part in society through formal processes like voting or standing for election, or informal processes like volunteering or joining community groups
Pressure groups Groups of citizens, normally linked together in a group, who share the same view regarding bringing about a change
