Questão Responda
What is fusion? Taking two small nuclei and combining them resulting in a nucleus with a larger binding energy per nucleon and so energy would be released
What is the problem with fusion? In order to fuse small nuclei we must do enough work to overcome the electrostatic repulsion and allow the strong force to take effect
What does this require? A lot of energy and at the moment the process is not efficient enough
What is the energy released from each stage of fusion? Two protons fuse to make hydrogen isotope, positron and anti neutrino The hydrogen isotope combines with another proton creating a helium isotope nucleus Two helium 3 nuclei fuse to form helium 4 and 2 protons
What does the jet fusion reactor do? Uses a powerful magnetic field to contain atoms heated to the point where electrons are stripped away A current then runs through the plasma which allows fusion to occur
What is wrong with the jet fusion reactor? It is too unstable for prolonged use at the moment
