What is the commercialisation of sport? It is when the media and sponsors are gaining greater power than the sports governing bodies. Their profit making is being put before the health and the interests of the athletes.
What is sports media? Sports media is the various forms of mass communication which informs people about sport.
What are the different types of media coverage? Television Radio Magazines / books / newspapers Internet / phone apps DVD's
In what formats is sport seen on television? Live coverage - Ford Super Sunday Edited highlight shows - Match of the day Documentaries - 'Inside Sport' Quiz programmes - Question of Sport Preview programmes - Football Focus Review programmes - Boots n All News programmes - Sky Sports News Instructional DVDS

Name the negative effects of having media coverage at a sporting event. Media is big business and is driven by profit. Who do they form close links with? Advertising companies and sponsorships deals have to be exceptionally strong.
When allocating an international event to a country the International Governing body would need to consider several factors. What may these be? The facilities and infrastructure (venues, stadiums, accommodation, transport) Security (competitors, spectators, officials and dignitaries) Development and promotion (grass roots, talent development - performing pathways, competitions and coaching)
What are the advantages of hosting an international event? Increase tourism, promotion of the country Update facilities, new stadiums and transport links Job creation (building facilities and running them) Profit through sponsorship, media, marketing, merchandise
What could be the disadvantages of hosting an international sporting event? Debt - if costs spiral out of control Terrorism - security threat, police costs, security costs Boycotts / protests - politics can affect attendance figures at major events Specialist facilities may become white elephants 'never used'

What are the advantages for the sponsors? Advertise the name of their product - lead to increased sales, revenue, profile Tax benefits Cheaper than making a TV campaign Reputation improved - linked with local and national athletes
What are the disadvantages for the sponsors? Is the team successful? Have sales increased? Does the public link the sponsor with the sport? Has the publicity been positive?
