Self Report | Ways to obtain data by asking participants to provide information about themselves. These include questionnaires and reviews. |
Rating Scale | A numerical scale in which a participant indicates a choice by selecting one number (provides quantitative data) |
Likert Scale | A type of question that measures attitudes using a statement to which participants respond by choosing one option, typically SD, D, N, A, SA |
Semantic Differential Scale | A scale that allows participants to choose on a scale between two extremes, such as an opposing pair of descriptive words. |
Open Questions | Questions that allow the participant to provide their own response instead of ticking boxes and providing scales. |
Closed Questions | Questions that offer a small number of explicitly stated alternative responses and no opportunity to expand on answers (provides quantitative data) |
Quantitative Data | Data representing how much there is of something. Such data is recorded in numerical form. |
Qualitative Data | Data representing how things are expressed - the quality of an experience or behaviour. This data is represented in words rather than numbers. |
Questionnaire | A self report method that uses written questions - like a written down interview. |
