Questão Responda
What are the 4 layers of the Earth? 1: Crust 2: Mantle 3: Inner Core 4: Outer Core 'COMI'
What is the CRUST? 1: outer layer of the earth. 2: thin layer between 0-60 km thick. 3: Solid rock layer (What we live on)
What is the MANTLE? 1: Widest section of the Earth 2: Diameter of approx. 2900 km. 3: Made of Semi molten rock and magma. Upper part: The rock is hard, Lower down: Rock is soft - Beginning to melt
What is the INNER CORE? 1: In the center 2: Hottest part of the Earth 3: Solid 4: Made up of iron and nickel with temperatures of up to 5,500°C. 5: It is so hot, it is like the engine room of the Earth
What is the OUTER CORE? 1: Layer surrounding inner core 2: Liquid layer 3: Made of Iron and Nickel 4: Still extremely hot (Similar to inner core)
What are the TWO types of CRUST that Plates are made of? 1: Continental crust 2: Oceanic crust
Continental Crust 1: Thicker 2: Less dense * Carries Land
Oceanic Crust 1: Thinner 2: More dense * Carries Water
Diagram of the structure of the Earth (To see inside is called ' The cross section'
What are Plates? Are broken pieces of the Earth's Crust
What creates Convection Currents? 1: Heat rising 2: Falling inside the mantle 3: Generated by radioactive decay in the core
What does Convection Currents do? 1: Move the plates 2: When they diverge near the Earth's crust, plates move apart 3: When they converge, plates move towards each other. * Converge - Come together * Diverge - Go away from something
What is Plate Tectonics? 1: Movement of the Plates 2: Activity inside the Earth
What does Plate Tectonics cause? 1: Earthquakes 2: Volcanoes
What is a Plate Boundary? The point where 2 plates meet * Volcanoes and Earthquakes more likely to occur on or near the plate boundary
Describe tensional, constructive and divergent boundary * Plates are moving apart 1: Plates move apart ( V. Slowly) 2: Magma rises from the mantle 3: Magma erupts to the surface of the Earth 4: Magma reaches surface and it cools 5: Igneous rock is formed VOLCANO IS FORMED OVER TIME
Describe compressional and destructive boundary * Plates are moving towards each other 1: Oceanic plate and Continental plate move together 2: As they move, Oceanic plate is force beneath the Continental 3: The point at which this happens is called SUBDUCTION ZONE 4: As Oceanic plate is forced below the continental plate, it melts 5: Magma is formed 6: Earthquakes are triggered 7 : Magma collects to form a magma chamber 8: Magma rises through cracks in the continental crust 9: Pressure builds up ( Risk of Volcanic eruption)
What creates Fold Mountains? 1: Plates push together 2: Continental crust is squashed and forced upwards 3: Called Folding 4: Fold mountains created * Also can be formed if two continental plates push towards each other *
How do Plates move? The plates move apart due to convection currents inside the Earth.
