What was the main aim of Act Utilitarianism? To find the "greatest good for the greatest number"
What was Benthams book called? 'Principles of Morals and Legislation'
What was Bentham motivated to find? An ethical theory which suited all situations
What does 'universal hedonism' mean? If an act brings pleasure or increases pleasure then it is right
What are humans referred to as in Act Utilitarianism? Hedonists because we seek pleasure rather than pain
What is the Hedonic Calculus? It tries to determine what the most pleasurable action would be
What are the 7 elements to the Hedonic Calculus? Intensitiy, Duration, Certainty, Propinquity, Fecundity, Purity, Extent
What does Bentham attempt to quantify? Happiness, giving us the attempt of calculating which consequence was more likely to produce the greatest good for the greatest number
