What percentage of the US population were on or below the poverty line? | Approx 50%. In 1929 5% of the population owned 35% of the country's wealth. |
What was it like for Black African-Americans? | The suffered real poverty often living in slums and were looked at as 'inferior'. They usually received lower wages, were discriminated and suffered segregation. This was most severe in southern states. |
What was it like for farmers? | They struggled when prices fell due to overproduction (it was increased alot during ww1) In the 20's many farmers went bust. |
Which industries suffered and why did they suffer? | Shipbuilding, coal mining and textiles did badly and wages in these industries were low and many lost there jobs. There was an exploitation of child labour in textile mills and agriculture. |
