Unit 2.4 Cell to Organism | Science Br Oussama |
Define Multicellular Organisms | Living things made up of many cells. |
What are tissues? | Tissues are similar specialised cells working together to complete a specific task. |
What are Organs? | Tissues are organised into organs. An organ is a structure that contains at least two different types of tissue working together to complete a task. |
What are Organ systems? | Organs are arranged into organ systems.Organ systems have two or more organs that work together. |
How many types of tissues are there? | Four |
What are the names of those tissues? | Epithelial, Connective, Muscle and Nerve tissue |
What is Epithelial tissue made up of? | It's made up of cells that form surfaces over other organs. |
Which organ is best known for its Epithelial tissue? | The skin, it has an outer layer of Epithelial tissue called epidermis. |
What other parts of the body is covered with epidermis? | Inside the mouth, digestive system & the Reproductive system |
What does the connective tissue do? | It supports and holds together other tissues. |
What are some examples of connective tissue | Fat, Bone, Cartilage, Ligament, and Tendon |
What does Ligament do? | It hold your bones together at the joints. |
What do Tendons do? | It joins muscles to bones. |
What do Muscle tissues do? | They contract, become shorter and fatter. |
What do Nerve cells do? | They can send e;electrical signals around the body. |
What are organs? | Tissues are grouped together into organs. Different tissues contribute to the job that the organ has to do. |
Name a couple of organs in the human body. | Kidney, Heart, Liver and skin. |
Which organ is the largest? | The skin. |
Why does the body need blood? | Blood carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells, and carries wastes away from the cells. |
What happens in the stomach and small intestine? | Food goes through chemical changes so the body can use it. |
Explain the Respiratory system | It gets oxygen from air into your body and gets rid of carbon dioxide. |
What is the skeleton system? | The skeletons and muscles. |
What does the Excretory system do? | Gets rid of wastes from the body. |
Explain what the Nervous system does | It sends message from the body to then brain, then from the brain to other parts of body including the muscles. |
Explain the Reproductive system | It creates and transports specialised cells necessary for reproduction. In females, it provides structures and nutrients for development of baby. |
What are essential functions for the plant | Photosynthesis, Transport and reproduction |
Define the Vascular tissue | Its made up of cells that create hollow tubes for the transport of nutrients and other substances in fluid. |
Define Xylem | Cells in a plant that carry water from the roots to the rest of the plant |
Name the main organs in a plant | Roots, Stems and leaves |
Define Photosynthesis | The process used by plants to make food from water and carbon dioxide using energy from the sun. |
What carries water from soil to the plant? | Roots. |
