Myopathy	A disease of the muscle tissue in which the muscle fibres cannot function properly.
Exertional Myopathy	A syndrome of muscle fatigue, pain or cramping brought on by exercise.
Non-exertional Myopathy	A myopathy caused by other factors, such as genetics.
Local Muscle Strain	Damage to the muscle due to exercise, insufficient warm up or training. Commonly found in the gluteal and lumbar muscles. Exertional.
Exertional Rhabdomyolysis	Caused by ion imbalances, limited energy, hypothermia or over exertion. Can be inherited but occurence depends on environmental factors. Exertional.
Mitochondrial Myopathy	Lack of ATP produced by the mitochondria. Exertional.
Fibrotic Myopathy	Mechanical hind limb lameness as a result of trauma, often seen in athletic horses. Extertional
HYPP Hyperkalaemic Periodic Paralysis	A genetic disorder where electrolyte balance cannot be controlled, which leads to impaired nerve function. Non-extertional.
SIT Stress Induced Tetany	Acute depletion of serum ionised calcium. Decreased absorption from the intestines. Loss of calcium from sweat, kidneys and milk. Non-exertional.
